League LAN Party

On Saturday, the League of Legends Society held their first LAN party of the semester. Pictured is Will from 4W as he plays the character Shen in game at the event. He said that he enjoys the LANs because he gets to hang out with his friends and play games that he loves. The event is a good opportunity to meet new friends and hang out with existing ones. Be sure to keep and eye out for the next one coming next month!

On Feb 21st, Bacon Fest was held in Melcher. They had bacon strips that anyone could pour chocolate over, bacon wrapped wieners, and mac n cheese with bacon bits. At the event there was also games that people could play and have a good time like pool, ping pong, and foosball. The event was an appreciation for bacon but allowed student to try something new while still enjoying something they love.

Flu VS Cold

IMG_9756

Do you have the flu, or is it a cold? On the wing there is a new board that lists some of the symptoms of the flu and symptoms of a cold. This board is helpful because it can help you self diagnose based off these symptoms.  It is also a good example of why you should try and keep healthy to avoid having either of these illnesses. The board also lists some advice of how to stay healthy and clean to avoid becoming ill. Check it out and learn how to stay healthy and tell the difference.

New Year, New Goals

IMG_9755

What is your goal going to be this year? That question is asked on the new middle board and you can answer by writing your goal on a piece of toast. Writing down your goals is a good way to increase motivation and helps you to stay more committed. I challenge you to think about what you want to do this year and write it down on the board. I hope that you are able to achieve your goals that you set and can stay committed through the whole year.

If you have ever wanted to become an RA, now is your time! Applications to become an RA are due on Wednesday Jan. 29th. Benefits include room and board, a stipend, and the great experience you will receive throughout the year. If you want more information about becoming an RA check out the board on the wing or feel free to stop by my room and ask questions and for advice.

Toastin Door Decs

In order to toast in the new year I put up new toast door decs on the wing. They are matching to the middle board that is on the floor and they also match the door decs on 2E. Heidi and I made them together for a floor theme. Enjoy the welcome back door decs and I look forward to another great semester on 2W.

Finals Encouragement

In the bathroom on the wing there are encouraging words for finals week. Finals can be a stressful time and I hope that the words on the mirror will give you some extra encouragement to study and de-stress this week. This week is very stressful and make sure that you remember to take a break so that you can take some personal time. Sleep is also very important this week (how ironic I’m saying this) so remember to get a good nights sleep especially before your morning finals. This will help your brain be well rested and hopefully be at peak performance. Good luck on finals this week and have an awesome break! Can’t wait to see everyone back here next semester.

Quack Quack

On Friday night, Southwest held the final FNC of the semester at the student center. The event was really fun and was a good way for students to relax before finals week. The duck hunt that started at 9 was pretty silly. It was an opportunity to relive some childhood memories and most importantly relieve stress before finals. Next week make sure to take time for yourself because relaxing events like this FNC are coming to an end for the semester.

Prepare for Closing!

IMG_9685

Its almost that time of the semester where students are studying to ace all of their finals. That also means it’s almost time for break! Before break there are a few things you need to do to get your room ready before checkout. The board on the wing highlights a few things that you should know going into finals week and before checking out. Be sure to read it and refresh on what you need to remember from the wing meeting.

Wii Games with a Professor

IMG_9653.jpg

Who would have thought that professors like playing Wii games? Not me! On Tuesday night, a professor from campus came to Melcher to visit with students and play Wii games. The games included golf, bowling, and other sport games from Wii Sports. There was also an option to play pool if the current Wii game was full or if people preferred to play pool. For a snack, pizza was provided to refuel after getting some “exercise” playing the sports.
